SSL Coming to Wix

2021 Update: I just stumbled across this old 2016 post, Wix did indeed release SSL to all hosting plans back in 2016/2017 – so all Wix websites now have SSL and https, which is essential for SEO and usability. How long does a Wix SSL certificate take?

Keep in mind, when a Wix website is launched by connecting your domain, the SSL certificate that makes your website secure at a https:// domain typically takes up to 48 hours to propagate.

Original 2016 post:

I have the inside scoop and it looks like Wix may be releasing the ability for Wix websites to have SSL applied to domains soon! At least, they appear to be testing SSL currently! That means that soon you can have a Wix website design with https:// in the domain, which means the page is secure. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

The Wix platform doesn't currently offer SSL, which means it's not good to take any information on forms on websites currently. But it's on it's way! YAY!

Having an SSL certificate installed on your website's domain is also good for SEO, as Google and other search engines are now favoring SSL websites (https://) over those without, as SSL is a further form of verification that a business and website is legit.
