How do I know that Wix is good for SEO? These contest competitors were highly skilled SEO companies all looking to score the prize, and using various other platforms such as Wordpress (which is often touted to be better than Wix at SEO – this is simply not true.) But, you do need to know how to use Wix properly to optimize it's images and pages to be ranked high in Google.
SEO Hero
Picklewix.com was actually at #1 on Google in Google's "quick answer" box when searching "SEO Hero" for days after the contest ended. While that answer box recently disappeared (Google's always switching it up!), it still currently ranks in the top 10, depending on where you search from. More importantly, the SEO Hero Wix-built site that I entered in the contest is at #1-#3 in Google! They both beat hundreds of competing SEO company websites, many of which were built in Wordpress and other platforms – and all were competing for the substantial $50,000 prize.

How do I know that Wix is good for SEO?
Because this very website, and my SEO Hero website, both built entirely in Wix, have soared above hundreds of other competitors worldwide all using their SEO skills to win Wix's $50,000 award for building the best ranking website for the keywords "SEO Hero." These contest competitors were highly skilled SEO companies all looking to score the prize, and using various other platforms such as Wordpress (which is often touted to be better than Wix at SEO – this is simply not true.)
Unfortunately, I couldn't enter the contest with Picklewix.com because it did not qualify as entries had to be a newly launched domain as of Nov 2017, and Picklewix.com was launched in 2014... however, I optimized it anyway for the "SEO Hero" keywords using my honest SEO techniques (and simple, good SEO content writing.) And, I did submit a Wix website, wix-seo-expert.com that is currently #1 (YES, #1!) on Google for "SEO Hero" searches around the world. So yes, Wix is great at SEO if you know what you're doing.
For the contest, I built a new Wix SEO Hero website (wix-seo-expert.com) to share my ongoing SEO tips and SEO Resources, which I entered into the contest. While it didn't win, it did get a very nice honorable mention from Wix themselves. And, it's currently #1-3 on Google for "seo hero" searches.
So I know that Wix can work wonders with good SEO!
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and the Wix platform allows for the setup all SEO titles, descriptions and image alt tags plus it's super easy to add content – all of which are critical for SEO. Great SEO isn't so much about the platform you are on as it is about how you use the platform and if you can write! It's a long distance race, where you continue to add new original content to your website over a period of months and years, you can become the online expert for your services or products and Google will rise your ranking as it wants to send searchers to the most relevant and info-packed websites for the terms searched.

SEO Hero Contest
I participated in Wix's SEO Hero contest, according to their rules, we had to start a new website with a new registered domain. So, in late November 2016 I launched a new website wix-seo-expert.com which is going to be a great resource for business owners to become their own SEO Hero's.
The goal is to get our new websites to the top of Google for the keyword terms "SEO Hero". I think that Wix does very well with SEO, but really any platform does well if you do all the right things. How to setup your Wix (or any) website for SEO:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an ongoing long-term process that combines researching what people are looking for, and building pages and content and internet/social buzz about your website content. First step:
1. Select Keywords:
Figure out what people are searching for and become your own SEO Hero.
You can use Google AdWord's Keyword Planner tool (or see my other SEO Tools & Resources) to figure out what people are actually searching for related to your business. So if you are a Solar Installer for example, below are some keywords that people are searching for – "Denver Solar Companies" may be a great keyword to build a page on to talk about your business, incorporating the "Denver Solar Companies" keywords into the page SEO title, description, and mentioned in your content text. Don't overdo it, though, Google doesn't like keyword term padding. You could also write an extensive blog post about "Solar Panels in Denver".

2. Implement Keywords with your website's SEO Tools:
Once you've determined your keywords, in Wix you can use your Wix website editor tools and build content! Login to: www.wix.com with your user/password, then click on "Edit Website" to open the website builder editing system. Then click on the page dropdown in the editor, and select the page desired, and click on the three dots in a circle to the right of the page name.
Here is how you can Implement Keywords with Wix's SEO Tools:
Page Title:
The Page Title is one of the most important things for SEO. Make sure to name your pages with keywords, and make sure the page has lots of good content related to those keywords. Building new pages for specific terms is a great idea, just make sure you provide lots of original content. Also, make sure to focus on a main keyphrase for your homepage and many pages on the site, don't overdo it with tons of keywords!
Page Description:
You can be more descriptive here in the page description, include your business name, and again include the keywords if possible. Write this for your audience, as this is the first thing they'll read about your page in the search results, so be short and sweet to let people know what the page is about.
Page URL
Name your page URL with your keywords! Punctiation is not allowed, and capitalization doesnt matter, you can only use letters and dashes here. So something like: www.picklewix.com/seo-hero will do.
Keywords (Meta Keywords):
Since lots of websites abused this meta tag, it's not considered highly used for search engine rankings. But, feel free to still use this field, it couldn't hurt, just make sure to only keep a few keywords or terms here, and be very specific to the page content. Don't overdo it with keywords, Google dislikes keyword stuffing.

3. Ongoing SEO:
Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process, so once you have your pages properly optimized with keywords, as explained above, then here's the rest of what you need to do:
Add LOTS OF CONTENT! Become the expert.
Google and all search engines love websites with lots of fresh content, so adding lots of content regularly will help your site perform well in SEO. Become the expert in your field, and make your website your platform! Blog, create pages about highly search topics related to your business, create a FAQ page about your service(s), etc.
Image Alt Text (tags) are also important as they tell Google what the image is about. Using the keywords is important in these alternative text tags.
4. Submit your website to Google and other Directories:
Setup a Google Search Console account for your website and submit and verify your website and sitemap (usually your domain name: www.domain.com/sitemap.xml) through the system.
Submit to Bing, and also www.dmoz.org, a free directory service.
5. Get onto Social Media
Search engines like Google now take social media into consideration when ranking sites. The more social media buzz you have linking back to your site, the better!
